Shamanic Ways Links
Shamanic Ways Links Project: This website is here to be a portal to shamanic websites, weblogs, resources, references, networks, directories, and portals about shamanic ways.
Definitions, Practices, and Teachings
We practice contemporary core and cross-cultural shamanic ways that emphasize the "magic ofthe ordinary" and the Way of the Shaman as Wise-Fool. Though we quest the non-ordinary, we begin and end in the ordinary spacetime, matter, and energy-flow-patterns of everyday moments and whiles in our backyards and on our neighborhood blocks.
Shamanic Ways are a huge set of ecstatic, animist, gnostic, and pantheist spiritual practices known in many cultures and traditions since the most ancient ages of humankind, for waking self up and re-dreaming one's intention and attention in non-ordinary reality to shift ordinary reality towards better and best. Shamans shift possibility, potential, and power in the ordinary universe from within their wild imaginations and act out these shifts in shamanic performances through psychodrama, expressive arts, ceremonies, and rituals. Shamanic ways are also methods and techniques of spiritual practice and earth sustaining and community harmonizing ways of living rather than an organized religion, though shamanic ways underlie and overlap most religions and still exist within and resonate harmoniously with many.
Ecstasy is essential to the ways of shamans. All shamanic ways are original - unfolding as direct, spiritual experience and ongoing revelation though individuals, spiritual companionships, and small circles. Shamanic practitioners may work within and add to a tradition, tradition-blend, initiatory way, or religion and perform some or most of the duties of ministers and counselors and healers.
Key to shamanic practice is connecting and relating directly to spiritual reality, expanding the here and now moment of any situation towards the new knowledge always present in divine or ultimate reality, and conducting the souls, stories, and gifts in spiritual and ordinary realities to the next better or best new life experiences. Shamanic ways are earth- and universe- centered yet mystical and magical all at once for shamans live the unity, interconnectedness, and harmony of matter and spirit 24/7/365 for reality shifting purposes.
A shaman called through dreams and visions, crisis and ordeal, and possibly ancestral and traditional lineages, after undergoing years of experiential education and rigorous testing, becomes able to intervene on any level of reality and lives thereafter as an open passageway for spiritual shifting of beings, dreams, dances, stories, and gifts to the best new life experience. A shaman always effects change by revealing and conducting Spirit(s) and Soul(s) in some way, no matter what other counseling, divining, ministerial, or healing interventions s/he offers. Shamanic ways go beyond the sacerdotal and clerical functions of churches or religions. A shaman might live at the fringes of society but always functions within a community. Nowadays a contemporary shaman's community may be an innovative and emerging one.A shaman, shamanic practitioner, or shamanizer works and plays directly with Spirits and Souls and energy-flows of all things from the greatest to the least to benefit self, community, the wider world, and the whole universe. Shamans may journey the non-ordinary in trance but there are too many other shamanic methods and techniques to count. Frontier, outsider, and alternative artists, scientists, technologists, and philosophers may also be fulfilling the role of the shaman in community and society - on purpose, or not (sung or unsung) - whether the word shaman is ever used in reference to them, or not.
Shamans know the Law Of Attraction (LOA) and all cosmic and natural laws inside-out. Shamanic ways do not work through dogmatic, fundamentalist, literalistic, or superstitious practices but through living the ways of Mystery, Consciousness, and Spirit(s) at the quantum and universal levels of being where religion, philosophy, science, and art agree. Shamanic ways are all the ways of expanding and experiencing here and now as 'all things new' now!
Many who some might call Shamans use a small "s" or do not call themselves shamans at all even if others do. In many indigenous tribal traditions, religions, and cultures the word shaman and words deriving from it, popularized in recent history by anthropologists, are not (and probably never have been) used to refer to the psycho-spiritual or magico-spiritual practitioners we might call shamans, shamanizers, or shamanic practitioners, and the words 'shaman' and 'shamanism' carry negative connotations for some individuals and groups.
In some traditions shamans (whatever they are called in their tribes or communities) never charge money for their services yet in others they do. There is always an energy-exchange of some kind for shamanic assistance even if this is informal and not reckoned in official currency. Some contemporary shamanizers hang out their shingles and charge hourly fees and others practice almost in secret on a donation basis or for free and many fall somewhere between or do some of all of the above, as each is guided by Spirit and Spirits.
Shamanic ways are really too widespread to be defined or described under an "-ism" at all even though the word shamanism has been widely in use for decades. There are many shamanisms, traditional, eclectic, or innovative. All shamanisms are ways of directly encountering and relating to the divine or ultimate reality - however those words or concepts are understood - and many shamanic ways and methods complement and blend into many other types of religious or spiritual healing or transforming practices.
